Makes YOU Wonder…

An email sent to me by a friend…

To All My Friends, this is long, but very important, please take the time to read it.

This election has me very worried.  So many things to consider.  About a year ago I would have voted for Obama. I have changed my mind three times since then.  I watch all the news channels, jumping from one to another.  I must say this drives my husband crazy.  But, I feel if you view MSNBC http://www.msnbc.msn.com/> , CNN, and Fox News http://www.foxnews.com/> , you might get some middle ground to work with.  About six months ago, I started thinking “where did the money come from for Obama”.  I have four daughters who went to College, and we were middle class, and money was tight.  We (including my girls) worked hard and there were lots of student loans.

I started looking into Obama’s life.

Around 1979 Obama started college at Occidental in California .  He is very open about his two years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of drugs and was wasting his time but, even though he had a brilliant mind, did not apply himself to his studies. “Barry” (that was the name he used all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan .  During the summer of 1981, after his second year in college, he made a “round the world” trip.  Stopping to see his mother in Indonesia , next Hyderabad in India , three weeks in Karachi , Pakistan where he stayed with his roommate’s family, then off to Africa to visit his father’s family.  My question - Where did he get the money for this trip?  Nether I, nor any one of my children would have had money for a trip like this when they where in college.  When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York .  It is at this time he  wants everyone to call him Barack - not Barry.  Do you know what the tuition is at Columbia ?  It’s not cheap! to say the least.  Where did he get money for tuition?  Student Loans? Maybe. After Columbia , he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for $12,000. a year.  Why Chicago ?  Why not New York ? He was already living in New York .

By “chance”  he met Antoin “Tony” Rezko, born in Aleppo , Syria , and a real estate developer in Chicago .  Rezko has been convicted of fraud and bribery this year.  Rezko, was named “Entrepreneur of the Decade” by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association”.  About two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School .  Do you have any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School ?  Where did he get the money for Law School ?  More student loans?  After Law school, he went back to Chicago . Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down.  But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Guess what?  They represented “Rezar” which is Rezko’s firm.  Rezko was one of Obama’s first major financial contributors when he ran for office in Chicago .  In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter, David Mendelland, claims was instrumental in providing Obama with “seed money“  for his U.S. Senate race.. In 2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwoood District of Chicago for $1.65 million (less than asking price).  With ALL those Student Loans? - Where did he get the money for the property?  On the same day Rezko’s wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price. The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born billionaire loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama’s new home was purchased.  Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko.

Now, we have Obama running for President.  Valerie Jarrett, was Michele Obama’s boss..  She is now Obama’s chief adviser and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her first.  Where was Jarrett born? Ready for this? Shiraz , Iran !  Do we see a pattern here?  Or am I going crazy?

On May 10, 2008, The Times reported that Robert Malley, adviser to Obama, was “sacked” after the press found out he was having regular contacts with “Hamas”, which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran .  This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported that during Obama’s visit to Iraq , he asked their leaders to do nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will “take care of things”.

Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that where born in Pakistan ?  They are in charge of all those “small” Internet campaign contributions for Obama.  Where is that money coming from?  The poor and middle class in this country?  Or could it be from the Middle East ?

And the final bit of news.  On September 7, 2008, The Washington Times posted a verbal slip that was made on “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos.  Obama on talking about his religion said, “My Muslim faith”.  When questioned, “he make a mistake”.  Some mistake!

All of the above information I got on line.  If you would like to check it - Wikipedia, encyclopedia, Barack Obama; Tony Rezko; Valerie Jarrett: Daily Times - Obama visited Pakistan in 1981; The Washington Times - September 7, 2008; The Times May 10, 2008.

Now the BIG question - If I found out all this information on my own, Why haven’t all of our “intelligent” members of the press been reporting this?

A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear - “Beware of the enemy from within”!!!

One Last Chance for McCain

One Last Chance for McCain

America this October is like a patient who has barely avoided a massive heart attack. We have no strategy for recovery, no strategy for economic growth, and no strategy for holding accountable those who have created this mess.

We’re also far from out of danger. If we do not create an economic recovery program, we will be facing another bailout next year.

To put it another way: We can mop up water all we want but if we don’t fix the leak we will simply have to keep mopping.

Similarly, we can pass a bailout, but if we don’t fix the economy we will have more and more bailouts.

America Must Get Back to the Fundamentals to Be Healthy Again

If we don’t develop an energy abundance plan, we will continue to send $500 billion or more a year overseas and our economy will continue to weaken.

If we don’t focus on making it easier for small business and for entrepreneurial startups, we won’t have the new jobs to replace the old ones that are fading away under the pressures of science, technology and the world market.

If we don’t get government spending, government regulations, government bureaucracy and government-mandated litigation under control, our economy will continue to weaken and we will be hit with rising inflation.

America has to get back to the fundamentals to become healthy again.

The Bush-Paulson Economic Strategy Has Been a Disaster

The Bush-Paulson strategy has been a disaster and has made things more difficult.

This spring, the $152 billion stimulus bill was wasted money. It should have been invested in science, technology, energy, infrastructure and pro-jobs, pro-savings tax cuts.

Imagine repealing the business killing Sarbanes-Oxley bill, eliminating the capital gains tax, going to 100 percent annual expensing for small businesses, and other practical steps to create jobs and generate wealth to mop up the bad debts.

Imagine half of the $152 billion invested in clean coal, biofuels, solar power, wind power, nuclear power, natural gas vehicles, hydrogen vehicles and drilling for oil and natural gas. Imagine the other half being invested in the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and in a space-based air traffic control system that would increase capacity in the Northeast by 40 percent. That would have been a long-term investment strategy instead of a wasted stimulus package.

Amazingly, the Housing Bailout Contained $500 Million for Radical, Anti-Free Market Groups

To give you a sense of how failed the current strategy has been, consider this: This summer a $300 billion housing bailout was passed with a $500 million a year payment to a radical, anti-free market group called ACORN and other left-wing organizing groups.

ACORN is a left-wing, political extortion racket. It’s currently busy bussing people to vote early in Ohio and elsewhere - these are your tax dollars at work. You get taxed to send a left-wing group money to use to elect left-wing predatory politicians to raise your taxes to give more money to groups who help them get elected, etc.

It was suicidal for a Republican president to sign that housing bailout bill and any bill that contains funding for groups so radically opposed to the values and interests of the vast majority of Americans.

The Paulson Bailout a “Paradigm Shift” Toward Big Government and Big Cronyism

The Paulson bailout was initially bad and made worse by the Congressional Democrats. Then, John McCain and the House Republicans moved the bill from terrible to merely bad.

Still, lobbyists are already lining up to get their piece of the Paulson pie. They see a goldmine of new government regulation and involvement in private industry for them to exploit for their clients. One lobbyist told the Hill newspaper: “This will ripple through every piece of major legislation we are looking at next Congress. This is a paradigm shift.”

Too Little Too Late: The SEC Moves Away From Mark-to-Market Accounting

Finally, the Bush Administration resisted for months modifying the mark-to-market accounting system which has been the source of many unnecessary bankruptcies.

The need to abandon the mark-to-market rule was the focus of my speech last Tuesday morning at the National Press Club. By Tuesday afternoon, to its credit, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) admitted the mark-to-market rule needed to be revised and announced a substantial change in its application. If the SEC had done this three months ago, it might have avoided $500 billion of the $700 billion in bad debt that Paulson wants to bail out with your money.

But If Bush-Paulson is Bad, Obama-Frank-Dodd-Pelosi-Reid Will Be Worse

Clearly, by any reasonable standard, the Bush-Paulson stewardship of the economy has failed.

But the Barack Obama-Barney Frank-Chris Dodd-Nancy Pelosi-Harry Reid-left-wing policies of big government, high taxes, more litigation, and insider deals for their left-wing special interests will be even worse.

We’ve heard a lot about predatory lenders in this current economic crisis. They deserve their share of the blame. But it’s time to introduce a new term that gets us closer to the real roots of this crisis: Predatory politicians.

Predatory politicians are much more dangerous than predatory lenders. Predatory politicians have the power of the government to coerce you.

Government under Obama, Frank, Dodd, Pelosi and Reid will be government by and for predatory politicians. It will make dealing with predatory lenders seems like a walk in the park.

McCain and Palin Should Sound the Call Against Predatory Politicians

The elite media has desperately sought to avoid the guilt of the left for the current crisis. But this is a topic Senator McCain and Governor Palin should spend at least one-third of their time on for the next four weeks.

For more information on predatory politicians and their role in the making of the economic crisis, see my paper “Predatory Politicans, Destructive Leftwing Politics and the Roots of the Housing Crisis.”

And if McCain and Palin find themselves in need of arguments against the left’s all-purpose excuse that a lack of government regulation is all that is behind the economic crisis, they should read this conversation with Warren Buffet. The government had a 200-employee agency whose sole job was to watch over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and yet Fannie and Freddie still managed to bring the economy to its knees.

The Questions Senator Obama Needs to Answer

Senator Obama is intimately tied to corruption, left-wing radicalism, and predatory politicians. But the elite media has done everything it could to avoid asking the key questions.

For a list of the questions Senator Obama needs to answer before we can judge his fitness for office, see my paper “Why is Barack Obama Afraid to Answer These Questions?

Senator McCain and Governor Palin should spend another third of their time asking Obama and the elite media to answer these questions.

They could use the same technique that Senator Richard Russell used in 1936 to defeat populist Georgia Governor Gene Talmadge. Russell literally posted a list of questions on the podium in Macon and told the crowd “Don’t let him leave until he answers them.” It was the psychological turning point of that campaign because Talmadge refused to answer and the people knew it.

If everywhere Obama and Biden went for the next 28 days they were faced with these questions they would rapidly lose popular legitimacy.

The McCain Crisis: Danger and Opportunity

Senator McCain now faces the crisis of his career.

He is behind.

He will not catch up on a state-by-state basis.

He will either win the argument in the national media, suddenly growing stronger in many states or he will lose the national debate and gradually decline further in a number of states.

The Danger For McCain

If Senator McCain is not prepared to separate himself from the Bush-Paulson economic program, he has no opportunity to win.

The country is deeply fed up with the Bush presidency and angry about the Paulson bailout. If McCain is confused or uncertain about how bad this economic performance is, he will never get the country to listen to him.

The Opportunity for McCain

Just as Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan (as well as the House Republicans in 1994 with the Contract with America) created a large argument which led to a decisive result, so McCain has an opportunity to reach beyond the daily attacks and clever tactics and spend the last 28 days of this campaign making a large argument over America’s future.

If McCain is prepared to declare that it is time for a fundamental change away from the failure of Bush-Paulson and away from the leftism of Obama (a “clean rupture” as French President Nicolas Sarkozy described it in breaking with President Jacques Chirac (watch my video on Sarkozy here) or “bold colors with no pale pastels” as Reagan described it in breaking with President Ford in 1976), then he has a huge opportunity on three levels:

First, small business and free markets are better than bureaucrats and socialism.

We know this as a matter of American values and polling confirms it. The margin isn’t even close; it’s about 70 -20 or better. Clinton pollster Doug Schoen and Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway recently did a survey for American Solutions which proves the American people hold the government responsible for much of our current economic pain. On other key issues like energy and taxes, the Platform of the American People proves that McCain could build a big majority.

Second, the vast majority of the American people are deeply fed up with the corruption, dishonesty, and arrogance of Washington and of many of their state capitals.

A candidate with the courage to tell the truth about Franklin Raines, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, the Carter and Clinton-era pressures for bad loans, the ACORN pressure for bad loans (trained in Chicago by Barack Obama in his community organizer days) would have an enormous response from a country which is sick of predatory politicians, arrogant bureaucrats, and elitist reporters.

In short, the elites would be enraged but the American people would be enthusiastic.

Third, there are huge groups of Americans eager to have someone address their concerns and offer them hope.

Millions of small business owners would like a program that cut spending in Washington and taxes on their businesses and reduced regulations and red tape.

Millions of drivers would like an energy program that offered them hope. They believe in drilling here and drilling now.

Every person who uses electricity is eager for a determined effort to develop clean coal.

Millions of retirees or soon to be retirees would like a program that would strengthen the economy and increase the value of their investments.

Entrepreneurs and venture capitalists would fight for a program that abolished Sarbanes-Oxley, eliminated the capital gains tax, and expanded H-1B visas for talented workers.

A bold program of the right changes would rally a massive number of activists and donors to fight for a better future.

“Action This Day”

That was the slogan Winston Churchill used to focus and energize the British Government when he became prime minister in the darkest days of World War II.

If Senator McCain is prepared to be as bold as Winston Churchill and as aggressive as Theodore Roosevelt, this is an election that can be won and might be won by a shocking margin (like Harry Truman in 1948).

The choice is his. As for myself, I know of no other path that will work.

Your friend,

Newt Gingrich

P.S. — Thanks to the determined effort of Americans like you, October marks the first month in a quarter-century when it is legal to explore for energy offshore. This is a huge victory, but many among the anti-energy left have already said they will do everything they can to stop it. You can arm yourselves with the facts about America’s energy potential with my new book, Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less (also available in audio) as well as Callista and my new DVD, co-produced by Citizen’s United, called We Have the Power.

You can also watch this video about the “Drill Here, Drill Now” efforts at American Solutions over the summer to have the Congress act to lower gas and diesel prices.

ONE MINUTE EACH NIGHT….

This is the scariest election We as Christians have ever faced. From the looks of the polls, the Christians aren’t voting Christian values.  We all need to be on our knees. Do you believe we can take God at His word?  Call upon His name, then stand back and watch His wonders to behold.
His scripture gives us, as Christians, ownership of this land and the ability to call upon God to heal it.  I challenge you to do so.  We have never been more desperate than now for God to heal our land.
2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
During WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety      of England, its people and peace. This had an amazing effect as bombing stopped.
There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America. The United States of America and our citizens need prayer more than ever!!!
If you would like to participate: each evening at 9:00 PM Eastern Time, 8:00 PM Central , 7:00 PM Mountain, 6:00 PM Pacific, stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, for peace in the world, for wisdom and courage for our leaders, the up-coming election, and that the Bible will remain the basis for the laws governing our land and that      Christianity will grow in the U.S.
If you know anyone who would like to participate, please pass this along.  Someone said if people really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless.  Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. Thank You.
Please pass this onto anyone who you think will want to join us.      God Bless You!!!

Two New Obama Secrets Revealed…

What are the two secrets that will rip the mask from Obama’s young face and reveal his charade for what it is-phantom liberalism?

Floyd Brown has the answers!

And who better to begin the unmasking than Floyd Brown, the man who has loyally served the conservative cause since the Reagan years. Floyd’s search for the real man behind the mask took him onto 3 continents, into the slums of South Chicago, up into New York’s power suites, and out to Hollywood…

Floyd had no interest in attacking Obama with base accusations or wild smears. He aimed for the simple facts…

Would the mad
billionaire George
Soros run wild in an
Obama White House?

But what he uncovered - especially two plots being hatched by George Soros and David Geffen to steal the White House for Obama - were the most damning things we’ve ever seen in politics.

There are several good books on Obama, and I applaud them all. But no other book reveals these two secret plots, plots which clearly explain how Obama rose to power so quickly and how dearly we’ll all pay if he wins.

These plots could be as damaging to Obama as Deep Throat was to Nixon or Whitewater to Clinton. When these revelations hit the streets, they’ll he hotter than a liberal hawking global warming.

If Obama fails in his bid, it will be because of new discoveries about the people who brought him into this world, who groomed him for this moment, who now see themselves on the cusp of controlling a superpower-a lifelong dream of these people, these handlers.

So I am asking you to get Obama Unmasked and then tell at least five friends to get a copy as well - that’s how we’ll stop the Obama media machine from rolling right over an unsuspecting electorate.

How Would a President Obama Respond to These Madmen?

Late on the night of January 20, 2009, the next Commander-in-Chief will be driven from the inaugural festivities to the Oval Office where he will be met by a national security staff ready with a “Threat Briefing.”

Will the lunatic Iranian President Ahmadinejad be moving nuclear missiles into Venezuela, pointed north?

Will Russian stormtroopers be marching southward, trying to reclaim their lost glory by reigniting the Cold War?

Will Syria’s Assad be ready to hammer Tel Aviv through his Lebanese proxies?

And what of the other unhinged madmen in Venezuela, North Korea, the Sudan, Zimbabwe, Burma, and the caves of Afghanistan? All kinds of bad boys are hanging around the global water cooler these days…

Obama with Arafat Advisor Edward
Said at an anti-Israel fundraiser.

By his own account, Obama would consider it a priority to meet at once with every evil thug out there - without precondition.

A stroll down the Champs Elysees with Ahmadinejad would make a rare photo opp - two men of Muslim heritage, there in an emerging Muslim nation, one of them holding a knife behind his back.

How did America get to the point when a greenhorn like Obama could be within a breath of the Presidency?

And while we’re asking…

Why are so many Islamofascists who are sworn to the destruction of America also actively campaigning for Obama?

What special rights would Muslims demand, and receive, from Obama?

Farrakhan fires up
Nation of Islam to march
for Obama.

After refusing to condemn MoveOn.org for calling General Petraeus a war criminal, how could Obama be an effective Commander-in-Chief?

These are a few of the foreign policy issues answered in Obama Unmasked.

Then there are the questions about the homefront…

After Obama raises taxes the first time but doesn’t get the revenue he thinks he needs, will he raise taxes a second time? And how high?

Would Obama put a gun to the head of an unborn child, but ban all other uses of that gun?

One Obama says he will force states to allow same-sex marriages. The other Obama says states can make their own decisions. Which of these two Obama’s is lying?

What did Obama promise union bosses to convince them to commit more than ONE BILLION DOLLARS to winning this election?

Will ObamaCare drive good doctors out of healthcare and leave us to the mercy of, well, of who?

Do businessmen truly understand the tangle of workplace regulations they’ll see from Obama’s labor watchdogs?

Will the senior posts in an Obama Administration be filled with nutcase preachers, shifty Chicago radicals, Clinton retreads, or all three?

And, in the final analysis, is it fair to conclude that Obama offers only the simple slogan of “change” because he has little else to offer?

Obama’s oldest friend in
politics is a murderer and
unrepentant terrorist.
Why are they friends?

He has been completely masked by his handlers in Hollywood, New York, and Washington. His very survival as a candidate now depends on his keeping that mask snugly fit.

That’s why Obama Unmasked is so important. And that’s why your help is desperately needed to rip away the mask and let the voting public see what they’d really be getting with Obama as President.

Please use this opportunity to order at least one copy of Obama Unmasked, enjoy a great read, then share it widely!

And remember, when you get Obama Unmasked and then tell at least five friends to get a copy as well - you’ll help to stop the Obama media machine from rolling right over an unsuspecting electorate.

Why Is Obama Afraid to Admit He Was Born and Raised Muslim?

Being a Black Muslim doesn’t disqualify him for running for President, so why won’t he be honest about it?

Maybe it’s because of what Floyd dug up from Obama’s distant and not-so-distant past…

What was Obama’s father doing with communist organizers just days before the Cuban Missile Crisis?

What did Obama mean when he described the Muslim call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset”?

Does Obama’s supposed conversion to Christianity make him an apostate “whose blood may be shed” by the devout nutcases in Islam?

When Obama was a full-time slacker-doing drugs and drinking heavily, did it stunt his development in any way?

Has Obama changed since he spoke of the “coldness of capitalism” and told his communist mentor he was “a spy behind enemy lines”?

And what about Michelle? When she says she’s obligated to put blacks before whites, is she just pandering, or is she speaking honestly?

With the Obamas often not on speaking terms, which of them would be sleeping on the couch in the White House?

One of the Muslim schools
Obama attended in Indonesia.

Back when he was an Illinois Senator, why did Obama vote “Present” a record-setting 130 times? Is that leadership? Is that “change”?

When Obama did vote on important issues, why did he vote the “Democratic Socialists of America” party line every time? (You could call that “change” but not the kind we need!)

How easily can Obama be bought? Unsealing the federal indictment against his close pal and fundraiser (and convicted felon) Tony “the Fixer” Rezko should reveal plenty.

Earlier we spoke of two revelations in Obama Unmasked that may well blow the lid off this election. Okay, first, a source close to the mad billionaire George Soros has revealed that Soros is planning…

Geffen’s “November Surprise” Could Trick Millions into Voting for Obama and Make Soros a Fortune.

A dirty Chicago machine
made Obama, and will be
expecting blood loyalty…

Soros’ lefty candidates have lost the last two elections, and he’s pissing mad. He has $7 billion to spend to get it right this time! He is reportedly planning to sack the U.S. economy, make himself billions richer, and put Obama in the White House marching to his mad tune. All the details, as well as how you’ll be affected financially, are in the book.

And out on the left coast, Obama has a powerful ally in billionaire Hollywood mogul David Geffen.

Nobody knows how to spin a yarn better than Hollywood’s finest, David Geffen. And according to our source, he’ll be a whirling dervish!

Radical leftists see Obama as their ticket to power-and they are pulling out all the stops. Not just an October Surprise, but a November Surprise as well. The first from New York, the second from Hollywood.

We may be in for the craziest election ever, with so many unknowns…

That’s why Floyd has worked so hard to peel back the mask and reveal the real Obama, his true political leanings, and what we could expect from an Obama presidency.

Few books are written in hopes of being unnecessary in just a few months-but this is one of those books. Our hope is that this book will be remaindered on November 5th because Obama has been told by voters that he’s not ready for such an important job.

Our fear is that voters will say otherwise.

So we’re doing our best to make sure we’re not stuck in an Obama nation. Can you help?

Our publisher has also made an effort to keep the book price low, so it’s not a burden to get a copy.

And if everyone who gets a copy passes it to someone else before the election, then maybe we can stop the radical left from putting Obama in the White House and their socialist stamp on our nation.

Please decide to help at this time. And if you can help in any other way, do let me know! It would be an honor to talk with you.

Thanks for your help,

Lee Troxler
lee@obamaunmasked.com

P.S. Everyone I speak to agrees that this is Obama’s race to lose. He’ll win it unless we (1) make our case with passion and (2) recommit ourselves to the ideals and principles we hold dear.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Floyd Brown gained notoriety with his book Slick Willy: Why America Cannot Trust Bill Clinton and his famous “Willie Horton” ad that sank Dukakis in 1988. He also founded Citizens United, ran the Young America’s Foundation, and worked for four presidential candidates, beginning with Ronald Reagan.

After serving as a press aide in the Reagan White House, Lee Troxler wrote Along Wit’s Trail: The Humor & Wisdom of Ronald Reagan. More recently he wrote and helped produce 3 movies-Hillary: the Movie; On Native Soil: The Documentary of the 9/11 Commission Report; FahrenHYPE 9/11.

Both authors spend more time in business than politics, but as this election unfolded they were moved to action. They watched as a young Senator with a 1-page resume was lifted up onto the world’s mightiest pedestal simply because he was black, handsome, and articulate. So the authors began asking questions…

Special GOP Convention Issue: The Happiest Convention

This was the happiest convention I have attended.

In seven conventions going back to 1984, I have never seen delegates as happy.

I have seen them eager, energized, committed, determined but the underlying mood last night was sheer joy.

There was joy that Senator McCain had had the courage to pick Governor Palin.

There was joy that she and her family had come through the week of attacks smiling and eager to campaign.

There was joy that Governor Palin’s Wednesday night speech completely vindicated Senator McCain’s choice.

There was joy that 37 million Americans had seen her speech. That is almost as many as watched Senator Obama’s acceptance speech (39 million).

There was deep inspiration from Cindy McCains story of adopting a child from Bangladesh and her commitment to the poor and the weak around the world.

There was awe at the film about Senator McCain’s service to country and inspiration from the personal parts of his speech.

There was joy at Roberta McCain saying “he’s a momma’s boy” and admiration for her energy and enthusiasm at 96 (sort of knocks down the age issue).

Finally there was joy that we had nominated two real people of great authenticity to take on the poseurs on the other ticket.

It was appropriate in St. Paul, the city of F. Scott Fitzgerald, that the modern Great Gatsby found himself facing a ticket with a real war hero and a real governor.

Obama’s long voyage of self discovery and posturing may be about to collide with a team that can’t be intimidated and is not afraid to tell the truth.

Now that is a cause for joy.

The Coming War Against Sarah Palin

I am writing this newsletter from St. Paul, MN, where Alaska Governor Sarah Palin electrified the crowd at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night. And I think it’s safe to say she showed the entire country a fresh new face of conservative reform.

There was a lot of build-up to Governor Palin’s speech, both in the media and among the professional Republican political class. Everyone was telling us that the speech was the Governor’s big moment; if she could perform well Wednesday night, she would break free of the despicable, sustained partisan and personal attacks being leveled at her by everyone from the left-wing blogs to the elite media.

Palin Survived. Now the Left REALLY Has to Destroy Her

But the pundits and the consultants were wrong. Palin’s success last week doesn’t mean the left-wing is going to give up attacking her.

Palin’s success means that now the left really has to destroy her.

Why? Because she’s proved that she is an intelligent, articulate and mortal threat to the left’s claim that it is the sole, legitimate voice of women and blue-collar, working Americans.

Sarah Palin is a mother of five who is also an accomplished woman.

She is a lifelong member of the NRA who is also an intelligent, articulate professional.

She is pro-life in her words and in her deeds, and she controls an $11 billion budget and 15,000 Alaska state employees.

Simply put, the left has a greater vested interest in destroying her than any presidential or vice presidential candidate the Republican Party has nominated in the last fifty years.

The media will try to downplay her accomplishments as when Ron Allen of MSNBC tried to get me to accept that she had too little experience. Watch it here.

Echoes of the Clarence Thomas Nomination

We’ve seen this kind of desperation before, of course.

Those of us who lived through the effort by the elites to destroy Clarence Thomas when he was nominated to sit on the Supreme Court by George H. W. Bush have an unsettling idea of the fight that lies ahead.

The left and the elites regarded Thomas - an African-American who is also a conservative - as a threat to their ability to be the arbiters of what African-Americans and other minorities should believe.

Allowing Thomas to ascend to the high court would show that skin color does not dictate political affiliation - just as allowing Sarah Palin to become vice president would show that being a woman and a blue-collar American does not dictate political party.

So they threw mud at Thomas. They called him a traitor to his race.

Just like what’s happening now with Governor Palin. We’ve seen this before.

If Palin’s Still Standing in November, Republicans Will Win the Election

The road ahead promises to be bumpy. But the good news is that if Governor Palin survives the next few months as a national figure of competence and reform, then the left suddenly has a tremendous problem.

It’s a problem that is bigger than just losing the election (which is what will happen if she is a star in November).

The left’s problem will be that, at 44, Sarah Palin represents potentially 30 years of Republican Party leadership and transforming the party and America.

The stakes are high, and the race is on.

It’s time to brace ourselves for the coming war against Sarah Palin - and its time to win it.

Will Sarah Palin emerge as America’s Margaret Thatcher?

Guest Commentary

Will Sarah Palin emerge as America’s Margaret Thatcher?
Daughter of a small-town grocer, Margaret Thatcher was elected leader of Britain’s Conservative Party at the age of 49, with zero international experience. Earlier she held junior ministerial posts and served as U.K. Secretary for Education and Science.

Thatcher went on to become history’s most effective woman leader, as Britain’s only-ever female prime minister. She led the Thatcher Revolution, a series of social/economic changes that dismantled Britain’s postwar welfare state. And she became Ronald Reagan’s ideological soul mate in ending the Cold War.

Like Sarah Palin today, Thatcher emerged suddenly as a young, smart, inexperienced, compelling, tough politician. Like Palin, Thatcher was an articulate, confident, straight-talking conservative, who connected well with her voters.

Both lifetime devout Christians; both strong voices for traditional values; and both played hockey as youths.

But there are differences.

Thatcher’s wealthy businessman husband financed her political career and later became a lobbyist. It’s unlikely Palin’s husband, a part Yupik-Eskimo union worker, will ever consult in D.C.

Palin is more authentic, humorous, personable, charismatic, likable, humble, unassuming, spontaneous, relaxed and attractive than Thatcher.

While both are examples of political courage, Palin has fought corruption in her own party and governed in bipartisan fashion more effectively than Thatcher.

Sarah Palin, a fresh new face in a dying political party, is the antithesis of boring, white, rich, out of touch Republicans, and the canned, focus-group-driven politicians who dominate our broken capitol. She has re-energized the Republican ticket, reducing focus on Barak Obama.

A unique blend of leadership and balanced ego, she’s accessible, works well with others and is a quick study. If suddenly thrust into the top role downstream, as Thatcher, Palin would easily seek, gather and value advice from a strong team surrounding her.

Hoping she may emerge as their own “Iron Lady,” Republicans have been almost unanimously fired up by Palin’s selection.

But what about the uncommitted; those who resist both Obama and John McCain? Obviously, some will have strong reservations about Palin’s qualifications.

McCain could have selected someone with superior credentials, but he chose Palin believing she adds what’s needed for victory in November.

Palin’s selection secures significant Christian right support. They number 30 million nationwide. Without them, McCain cannot possibly win.

For evangelicals, the abortion issue dwarfs all others combined. And now, previously uncommitted evangelical leaders, including James Dobson, are supporting McCain/Palin. They would never have supported a ticket with Tom Ridge, Joe Lieberman, Rudy Giuliani, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice or Earl Hutchinson. At best they would have been tepid toward Mitt Romney. If McCain had made a ‘wrong’ pick, many of them might have stayed home in November.

The Palin choice has also awakened conservative talk radio hosts who have been critical or turned-off to McCain.

How about the VP debate? Well, Joe Biden, with high expectations, may have to control his combative nature. But Palin, with low expectations, will blend charm, intelligence and toughness.

As Alaskans say: “Don’t ever underestimate Sarah Barracuda!”

If Palin’s roles as mayor and governor call into question her readiness, her executive experience is still superior to Obama’s. She’s been serving as Alaska’s CEO and commander of Alaska’s National Guard, while Obama has been on the campaign trail.

Palin has executed budgets, pulled factions together, compromised on tough issues, and made “buck-stops-here” decisions.

Her leadership record in Alaska is impressive. An effective voice for liberating Alaska’s energy resources, her victory establishing a 7,200-mile natural gas pipeline, after 30 years of failure, was simply remarkable. She created and shared oil company windfall profit taxes with all Alaskans. She understands energy issues better than Obama, Biden and McCain combined.

A proven reformer, fiscal conservative and strong environmentalist, Palin has courageously confronted political corruption. Enormously popular for tax-cutting and budget-balancing, her unprecedented 84 percent to 90 percent approval ratings are by far America’s highest.

Now in elected office for 13 years (five years before Obama first ran in Illinois), she has superior executive/management credentials as mayor, leading a key Alaskan commission, and in two years as governor, than Obama and Biden combined. Her brief Middle East trip as commander of Alaska’s National Guard gives her more pre-candidate international experience than Harry Truman, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush or Barak Obama.

That said, McCain’s choice is arguably the boldest, riskiest gamble in presidential political history. To help make the Palin choice more palatable, McCain could begin announcing his cabinet with Romney at Treasury or Commerce, Lieberman at Defense, Giuliani as Attorney General and Ridge as Secretary of State.

Surrounding himself with such proven strength might quell voter concerns about the woman he hopes will become America’s “Iron Lady.”

An Absolute Factual Must-Read - READ THIS

Joe, Mo, Bobby, and Me

By Jeffrey Lord Published 8/25/2008 12:08:20 AM
It is an unlikely and I certainly thought long forgotten tale. The time: September, 1987.

The characters in this story: Senator Joe Biden of Delaware, New York Times reporter Maureen Dowd, the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy — and me.

To begin, Biden. The then young Senator from Delaware, a rising star for the Democrats since his election to the Senate in 1972 at the age of thirty, was very much in the news that September. First, he was a popular and viable candidate for his party’s 1988 presidential nomination. The field that year included such as 1984 nomination runner-up Gary Hart, Missouri Congressman Dick Gephardt, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Tennessee Senator Al Gore and Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis. The campaign had been on in earnest for months, and the very eloquent young Senator Biden was in fact getting traction with his oratorical skills.

B iden was also getting a significant boost from the fact that President Reagan had decided to nominate Judge Robert Bork for a seat on the Supreme Court. The Senator was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the hearings, now legend for their brutal treatment of Bork that began from the moment Reagan made the appointment, were ready to begin with Biden holding the gavel.

Darting back and forth between Washington and the campaign trail, Biden was decidedly in the public eye. Unfortunately, as with all presidential candidates, he had rivals who were unhappy about both his prominence and his success with primary audiences. An aide to Massachusetts Governor Dukakis had also noticed something about Biden’s rhetoric. One speech in particular had been plagiarized straight from the then leader of the British Labour Party, the Right Honorable Neil Kinnock. The Dukakis aide had a video of Kinnock, and one of Biden repeating the same speech, changing only the locale to make a Welsh coal miner into a Scranton coal miner. Leaked anonymously, the good ship Biden was barely scraped with this political shot across the bow. Biden said it was an accident that he had not made attribution to Kinnock, and for the moment, the story faded.

Sitting quietly in my White House office where I worked as a young political aide to President Reagan, I knew with certainty that what Biden had said about this being some sort of mistake was, to put it politely, untrue. I knew this because as a kid I was a deeply enthusiastic fan of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy, brother to JFK and Teddy. RFK’s 1968 presidential campaign had ended with his assassination. But in the style of the day, phonograph records of his speeches were shortly everywhere, along with a cascade of books. I not only bought them all with earnings from my high school jobs, politically precocious kid that I was I took great care to memorize those records. To this day I can remember sitting for hour aft er hour listening to those Bobby Kennedy speeches until they were practically burned into my brain (such as my brain was in those days!).

Unfortunately for Senator Biden, months before the Kinnock controversy had arisen I had heard him on C-SPAN delivering a speech to a group of Democrats in California. I was stunned. Why? Because I realized as I watched Biden that I was getting to the end of his sentences before he was. Up from the mists of my teenage years, every sound, every memory of those Bobby Kennedy speeches came rushing out in a torrent. Most startling of all, it was very, very clear that Joe Biden was leaving the impression with these on-fire California Democrats that every last word he was uttering was — Joe Biden’s. Of Bobby Kennedy there was not a word. I was witnessing out and out plagiarism.

WHAT TO DO? Looking back I am amused about the steadiness of my youthful idealism. While I had evolved from an RFK enthusiast to a decided Reaganite — and not to put too fine a point on it I was actually working for my hero in the White House — my idealism was very much intact. I was incensed at Biden for expropriating Bobby Kennedy’s words without so much as a nod. Yet — the caution of a thirty-something political aide showing — the good Senator was in fact in charge of Judge Bork’s fate. What would he do to Judge Bork if I somehow decided to go public with this? Nothing, I convinced myself, that Biden and his liberal lobbyist friends weren’t doing already. The word had yet to be coined, but along with everybody else in Washington I knew Judge Bork was being borked. It was appalling. And it was being led by Joe Biden. So…

I picked up the phone and did what Robert Redford did in that old Three Days of the Condor movie. When all is lost, spill your guts to the New York Times. In my case, I w ent to then-reporter (and now NYT columnist) Maureen Dowd. We’d never met. She drove Reaganites crazy. But she had been covering Biden, and I liked her writing. So Mo Dowd it was.

Her voice was careful at first. Cautious and skeptical in the way of a liberal reporter getting a call from a Reagan White House type. I explained my tale. Told her of my RFK and JFK-worship as a teenager and how I memorized all those hours of RFK speeches. When I told her that I could prove beyond question that Biden had simply been lifting RFK’s words whole cloth she burst out laughing, saying something to the effect that this was just too good to be true. It seems (as I recall this all these years later) that the Biden staff had been irritated by the good Ms. Dowd as well. They had even gone to the point of making her life difficult as she sought to cover the Bork hearings. Maureen would love my records and would promise to return them in the mint condition in which I still had them. Telling her specifically which speech of RFK’s had been used, and when and where Biden had done this, I delivered my treasured albums unto the New York Times. And waited.

It didn’t take long.

Within days Ms. Dowd had a front page story, appearing on September 16, 1987. It appeared above-the-fold just under the photo of Judge Bork defending himself in front of Biden’s Senate Judiciary Committee, flanked by ex-President Gerald Ford and Senator Bob Dole. The headline:

BIDEN IS FACING GROWING DEBATE ON HIS SPEECHES

Inside the fold, where the Times then covered all its campaign news, there I was in the continuation. Dowd described me accurately as a “devout Robert Kennedy fan as a youth who keep s a Jamie Wyeth portrait of John Kennedy in his offic e at the Reagan White House.” It mentioned that I knew RFK’s speeches “by heart.” And told all the rest.

It was the first time I understood the accuracy of the phrase “media firestorm.” I was besieged by press — and after consultation with an astonished boss — decided to simply just not say a word. Biden was not so lucky. He was the dead center of this frenzy and the pressure was building rapidly. The San Jose Mercury had discovered what I had known without any help from me. Now there were stories that Biden had plagiarized in law school and exaggerated his academic record. Lesley Stahl over at CBS had jumped on this, along with the rest of the networks. Biden was captured on tape snapping at a New Hampshire Democrat about his superior IQ. The attention on Judge Bork suddenly shifted to the besieged chairman. Democrats were stunned, furious with both Biden and each other. The Dukakis c ampaign was briefly under siege, the aide who leaked the original Kinnock video personally axed by Dukakis, summarily convicted of a “dirty trick.” The White House was suspected of some deep, dark plot. A plot that didn’t exist because, of course, it only involved my being, as described by Dowd, “ticked” at the notion of Biden masquerading as Bobby Kennedy. In the Biden campaign, there was chaos.

Seven days later, Joe Biden ended his campaign for president, quite publicly humiliated.

IN TRUTH, I felt somewhat disturbed at what I had done. While I thought there was some sort of fairness here — Biden had actually done what I said he had done and it had been initially denied — certainly I wasn’t about trying to destroy the guy’s life. This was, and is, a man who on a personal level is very well liked and respected by those who have spent any time around him. I’ve often wondered what he learned from the episode. Later, he su ffered from a brain aneurysm and attributed his survival to the fact that he had been forced out of the presidential race.

But as time moved on, here’s what I took from the experience. I think it’s relevant now that Senator Biden is Senator Barack Obama’s vice-presidential choice.

In all the coming days and weeks and months of look-backs the media will give us about Joe Biden’s life, how many will touch on the substance of the speech I caught him lifting from Bobby Kennedy? What, in fact, did RFK say that Biden thought was so important? Here are excerpts from two RFK speeches that Biden tried to say were his own:

“The gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry, or the strength of our marriages, the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage, neither our wisdom nor our devotion to our country. It measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile, and it can tell us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans.”

“Few will have the greatness to bend history. But each of us can work to change a small portion of those events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation.”

Today, these are the sentiments not of the left but of the right. They are what we would call today “values issues” and they have long since been abandoned by Democrats. In hindsight, it is no accident that Ronald Reagan carried the California governor’s race in 1966 by a million-vote landslide. Reagan won by getting votes from the same Democrats who, two years later, would give a victory to Robert Kennedy in the California Democrats’ 1968 presidential primary over the New Left’s Eugene McCarthy. The great departure from the principles of JFK and RFK (and Truman and FDR) by the rising elites of the Democratic Party — elites like Joe Biden and later Barack Obama — had begun. The “Reagan Democrat” had been born.WHY IS IT THAT the audience at the Saddleback church so vigorously applauded Senator McCain when he unambiguously responded to Pastor Rick Warren’s question about abortion by saying life begins at conception? It is because McCain touched on the very core of precisely what RFK was talking about — a value issue about “the health of our children, the quality of their education or the joy of their play.” Which is to say, the
value of life itself for the most vulnerable among us, children. One cannot imagine the very Catholic Bobby Kennedy responding to the same question from Warren with Obama’s detached shrugging as he says of a child’s life that “it’s above my pay grade.” Much less can one imagine RFK essentially endorsing infanticide as Obama did while an Illinois state senator. Biden, of course, takes Obama’s side here — and like the losing John Kerry of 2004 he is also a Catholic. To reread RFK’s value issue call to focus on “the strength of our marriages” is a reminder that it is the Obama-Biden Democrats who insist on court-ordered opposition to those same marriages between a man and a woman, fervently working in state after state to deny any attempt by voters to express their choices on the issue. Does anyone really see a care for the value issue of what RFK called “the intelligence of our public debate” in the gutter politics of MoveOn.org or the Daily Kos, two of the stalwarts of the Obama movement? How about respect for the value issue of “devotion to our country” as evidenced in the words of Obama’s Senate colleague from Illinois, Dick Durbin? It is Durbin, you will recall, who compared American soldiers to Nazis.

Senator Biden is, as we hopefully all are, a different person in the world of 2008 than he was as a much younger man twenty years ago. Yet he in fact has played a key role in moving the Democrats away from precisely the values issues that had inspired so many young people when Bobby Kennedy was giving those value-laden speeches as he was running for president, myself included. Biden’s presence on the Obama ticket should, correctly understood, be seen as exactly one of the reasons that the eventual 1988 nominee for the Democrats, Governor Dukakis, lost in a landslide to Ronald Reagan’s vice president, George H.W. Bush. It explains as well why a Catholic like 2004 Democratic nominee Senator John Kerry loses the Catholic vote to a born-again Methodi st like George W. Bush, or why the voters of Tennessee turned on their own Al Gore, costing him the White House in 2000. Or why even the ever charming Bill Clinton could only manage a 49% win against a decidedly lackluster Bob Dole in 1996.

Biden, it seemed all those years ago to his critics in both parties, was repeating the speeches of others because he didn’t really have any ideas of his own. Now, after a lengthy thirty-plus years in the Senate, he has finally been given the green light to serve on a national Democratic ticket. Without doubt, that green-light comes because he has given the impression that when push comes to shove, he agrees with the spirit of the post-Kennedy 1968 Democrats of Obama and the left-wing values that have led so many Democratic presidential tickets down to defeat. Value issues that Robert Kennedy once spoke of with such passion that an impressionable young Senator Joe Biden took the words and tried to say they were his own.

Too bad.

He was really good at giving those speeches.

Thoughtful point of view

This is very interesting!  I never thought about it this way.  Perhaps this is why so many regular folks are conservatives or Republicans. Email sent by Joe Porter.

Thoughtful point of view…

The Democrat Party has become the Lawyers’ Party.  Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are lawyers.  Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama are lawyers.  John Edwards, the other former Democrat candidate for president, is a lawyer, and so is his wife, Elizabeth.  Every Democrat nominee since 1984 went to law school (although Gore did not graduate).  Every Democrat vice presidential nominee since 1976, except for Lloyd Bentsen, went to law school.  Look at the Democrat Party in Congress:  the Majority Leader in each house is  lawyer.

The Republican Party is different.  President Bush and Vice President Cheney were not lawyers, but businessmen.  The leaders of the Republican Revolution were not lawyers.  Newt Gingrich was a history professor; Tom Delay was an exterminator; and, Dick Armey was an economist.    House Minority Leader Boehner was a plastic manufacturer, not a lawyer.  The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon.

Who was the last Republican president who was a lawyer?  Gerald Ford, who left office 31 years ago and who barely won the Republican nomination as a sitting president, running against Ronald Reagan in 1976.  The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work.  The Democrat Party is made up of lawyers.  Democrats mock and scorn men who create wealth, like Bush and Cheney, or who heal the sick, like Frist, or who immerse themselves in history, like Gingrich.

The Lawyers’ Party sees these sorts of people, who provide goods and services that people want, as the enemies of America     And , so we have seen the procession of official enemies, in the eyes of the Lawyers’ Party, grow.

Against whom do Hillary and Obama rail?  Pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, hospitals, manufacturers, fast food restaurant chains, large retail businesses, bankers, and anyone producing anything of value in our nation.

This is the natural consequence of viewing everything through the eyes of lawyers.  Lawyers solve problems by successfully representing their clients, in this case the American people.  Lawyers seek to have new laws passed, they seek to win lawsuits, they press appellate courts to overturn precedent, and lawyers always parse language to favor their side.

Confined to the narrow practice of law, that is fine.  But it is an awful way to govern a great nation.  When politicians as lawyers begin to view some Americans as clients and other Americans as opposing parties, then the role of the legal system in our life becomes al l-consuming.   Some Americans become ‘adve rse parties’ of our very government.  We are not all litigants in some vast social class-action suit.  We are citizens of a republic that promises us a great deal of freedom from laws, from courts, and from lawyers.

Today, we are drowning in laws; we are contorted by judicial decisions; we are driven to distraction by omnipresent lawyers in all parts of our once private lives.  America has a place for laws and lawyers, but that place is modest and reasonable, not vast and unchecked.  When the most important decision for our next president is whom he will appoint to the Supreme Court, the role of lawyers and the law in America is too big.  When lawyers use criminal prosecution as a continuation of politics by other means, as happened in the lynching of Scooter Libby and Tom Delay, then the power of lawyers in America is too great.  When House Democrats sue America in order to hamstring our efforts to learn what our enemies are planning to do to us, then the role of litigation in America has become crushing.

We cannot expect the Lawyers’ Party to provide real change, real reform, or real hope in America   Most Americans know that a republic in which every major government action must be blessed by nine unelected judges is not what Washington intended in 1789.  Most Americans grasp that we cannot fight a war when ACLU lawsuits snap at the heels of our defenders.  Most Americans intuit that more lawyers and judges will not restore declining moral values or spark the spirit of enterprise in our economy.

Perhaps Americans will understand that change cannot be brought to our nation by those lawyers who already largely dictate American society and business.  Perhaps Americans will see that hope does not come from the mouths of lawyers but from personal dreams nourished by hard work. Perhaps Americans will embrace the truth that more lawyers with more power will only make our problems worse.

McCain Surprises Many with Veep

John McCain picked Alaskan Govenor Sarah Palin as his Presidental Running Mate, a Maverick Conservative that has a strong anti-abortion record, against gay marriage, and is a self-styled hockey mom and political reformer. She stated that she followed in the footsteps of Geraldine Ferraro, who was the Democratic vice presidental running mate in 1984.

Palin, the first Republican woman tapped for national office, promised: “I’m going to take our campaign to every part of our country and our message of reform to every voter of every background in every political party, or no party at all.”

In the fast-paced political campaign, McCain announced his selection six days after Obama named Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware as his running mate.

Comparisons were immediately made about the age differences, McCain, 72 years and his veep, Sarah Palin who is 44 years old, three years younger than Barack Obama. Obama, aged 47, picking a seasoned political running mate who is 65 years old.

Unlike Biden, who attacked McCain sharply in his debut last week, Palin was indirect in her initial attempts to elevate McCain over Obama.

“There is only one candidate who has truly fought for America and that man is John McCain,” she said as the Arizona senator beamed. McCain was a prisoner of war for more than five years in Vietnam.

“Governor Palin is a proven reformer who is a wise steward of taxpayer dollars and champion for accountability in government,” a presidential statement said. “By selecting a working mother with a track record of getting things done, Senator McCain has once again demonstrated his commitment to reforming Washington.”

Palin has a long history of run-ins with the Alaska GOP hierarchy, giving her genuine maverick status and reformer credentials that could complement McCain’s image.

Sarah Palin for her entire political career has been underestimated,” said Paulette Simpson of the Alaska Federation of Republican Women. “She’s tough, she’s tenacious. I believe that she does have what it takes to get out there. Again, her ability to connect with voters and make a case is very, very, very strong.”

Palin’s confrontations with the state GOP began when Murkowski named her chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. There, Palin exposed current Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich, who was also on the commission, for ethical violations.

In 2005, Palin co-filed an ethics complaint against Murkowski’s longtime aide and then attorney general, Gregg Renkes, for having a financial interest in a company that stood to gain from an international trade deal he was helping craft.

Her husband, Todd Palin, is part Yup’ik Eskimo, and is a blue-collar North Slope oil worker who competes in the Iron Dog, a 1,900-mile snowmobile race. The couple lives in Wasilla. They have five children, the youngest of whom was born in April with Down syndrome.
